Prospective Students

contracting ceremonyArmy ROTC is an elective curriculum you take along with your required college classes. It gives you the tools, training and experiences that will help you succeed in any competitive environment. Along with great leadership training, Army ROTC can pay for your college tuition. Because Army ROTC is an elective, you can participate your freshman and sophomore years without any obligation to join the Army. You will have a normal college student experience like everyone else on campus, but when you graduate, you will be commissioned as an Officer in the Army. At that point, you will have a wide range of interest areas you can specialize in called branches.

University of Missouri-Columbia students enroll in Military Science concurrently with their academic degree. Students may complete the first two years of Military Science with absolutely no military service obligation.

Veterans, National Guardsmen, Army Reservists, and students who complete a four-week leadership course at Fort Knox, Ky. receive constructive credit for the first two years of Military Science, and can complete the Military Science program in as few as two school years.

Freshman through senior Military Science courses are offered every semester. After the junior year students attend a 6-week Leader Development Assessment Course with their peers under the guidance of experienced Army Captains at Ft. Lewis, Wash. Students are provided one-on-one counseling and progress reports throughout the course.

These academic courses progress from:

  • Introducing the student to the Army's mission and organization
  • Learning and applying the Army's moral leadership framework of BE, KNOW, DO
  • Teaching students the responsibilities and skills required of officers in the twenty-first century
